Information about Ambleside, a town at the very heart of the Lake District.
||This Lake District hostel is just 4 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. Ambleside is well located
for you reach all areas of the Lake District National Park.
Obviously you can use a car to travel but the bus service is pretty good too. The town of Ambleside with
interesting street and building arrangements particularly north of Stock Ghyll (the main river flowing
in the older area ("north of stock") The Unicorn pub does good food, live folk type music and a pleasant atmosphere.
The Golden Rule, a very traditional pub is just round the corner at the bottom of 'The Struggle' the road that goes
up almost without break for 3 miles to the Kirkstone Inn, Britain,s 3rd highest pub at 454m altitude.
|Ambleside's facilities are good for a town this size, particularly if you like
shops for outdoor gear, shops to buy food stuff and shops for touristy stuff.
There is a also great choice of places to eat, cafés and drink;over 30! -all within 8 - 10 minutes walk
of our lake district hostels front door.
There are 2 cinema's (6 screen's between them) both have restaurants. There are traditional lake district
& sports at various times throughout the year.
||If you get fed up with busy, within minutes you can find quiet beauty spots,
parks, waterfalls and the lake shore. There are guided walks and town trails, tennis courts and mini-golf.
You can be on the fells and away from it all within 10 minutes walking from Ambleside Backpackers Hostel front door
|7 minutes walk from the hostels gates, you can be on the shore of Lake
Windermere - boat hire, launching, cruising, fishing, bird watching.
